Casual Despair (Heavy)
Written around November 2002
The long and short (mostly short): I basically took a bunch of unfinished bits and forced them into one song. As a result, it’s fairly incoherent but there’s still something about it that gels. I’m sure I’ll revisit it later…
What ever happened to
The casual despair I once knew
Dig a hole shoulder high
Chin up as I climb down insideOh, when I’m alone I hurt
Wait for your waves (mumble for days)
Oh, when I’m alone I hurt
Pray for your rainNow another cold night’s past
a restless sun returns at last
dreamt you on the day I died
a black parade fell from your eyesOh, when I’m alone I hurt
Wait for your waves (mumble for days)
Oh, when I’m alone I hurt
Pray for your rainIf the weight of this world is that heavy
It’s only ‘bout six head from shoulder to feet
But if the weight of this world is that heavy
It’s only ‘bout six head from earth to underneathOh
When I’m alone I hurt.

This song rocks. But it’s not sealed yet. Please don’t leave the guitar solo as is. It doesn’t match the tone/attitude of the song very well. Besides that, the song is a hit in my mind.

This is a nice song, i m a big fan of acoustic music, especially Dashboard Confessional.
I think you did a great job getting it to sound thick and full with just your voice and that acoustic guitar. You got all the guitar parts to layer very well.
I love the end where you throw in the distorted guitar. It’s just begging for crashy drums, but I can hear them even though they’re not there ;-)
In followup to Justers’ post, you sound nothing like Dashboard Confessional. I’ve got nothing against Dashboard, but you’re not even comparable. To me, your song sounded exactly like Collective Soul gone acoustic. If you haven’t heard Collective Soul, you should definitely check out some of their stuff. The style is lot like yours (except w/ distorted guitar and it’s drum-driven). Listen to anything from their self-titled album if you can. That’s most like your sound.
