I am the Mouse
Written around August 1996
My younger brother Stephen (now almost 18) was 9 years old and prepubescent falsetto never sounded so good. A vaguely disguised tale of childhood loneliness from a vaguely disguised, lonely child.
I am the mouse
From the house on Main Street
Well, actually, it’s 14 Chapel Street
And I don’t know any other mice that live thereDo, do, doo…
But I like it because I have
Pretty cool stuff here
And I am a really neat mouse
Do-doot, do-doot, dooOn Memory Lane I lost my brain
But they gave me a mechanical one
And—I can’t read this—now—
Now I’m done because I’m a computerized bumYeah, yeah, yeah
Doot-dee, Doot-dee, do…But I like it because I have
Pretty cool stuff here
And I am a really neat mouseOn Memory Lane I lost my brain
But they gave me a mechanical oneNow—But I like it because I have
Pretty cool stuff here
And I am a neat mouseDoot-dee, doo, doot…
And I am the mouse
I am the mouse from the house
(I break a lot of windows that way)Good-bye everyone.
